Free Coffee

I was recently thrilled to discover that the cafeteria staff leave their industrial sized coffee grinder (the GrindMaster 9000) plugged in all the time. This thing is huge. It's about a metre tall and runs on diesel. And they keep it full of coffee beans, so all I have to do is push the little button on the side to get a pile of freshly ground coffee. From now on, free coffee in the Math Club!

I Don't Really Hate Art Students

Yesterday a friend of mine recalled an argument that we had a while ago over the usefullness of an arts degree. I don't actually think arts degrees are useless (not all of them, anyway), but it's fun to watch art students get worked up trying to defend themselves. The best part of the argument, which involved me, another math student, and a history student, went like this:


History student: History is important because by learning from the past we can prevent mistakes in the future.

Math student: or we can use math to make precise calculations and avoid making mistakes in the first place.

Me: mistakes like taking history.


I don't actually remember saying this, but it sounds like something I would say. And the person whom I deeply offended with this comment definately remembers me saying it. She will probably hold a grudge towards me long after she graduates, and will someday get even by spitting in my burger.
